Jeri Brown: The Spirit Comes Through

The exceptional acoustics and soaring architecture of St. Matthews United Church in Halifax provide the setting for JERI BROWN: THE SPIRIT COMES THROUGH, a one-hour television special that will air on BRAVO! on August 6th, Saturday, at 10 pm Atlantic Time. Produced by New Scotland Pictures Inc. and starring acclaimed jazz artist Jeri Brown and fifteen extraordinary young singers, the show is part performance and part documentary, as we watch Jeri choose the singers from Nova Scotia’s black community, mentor them through a rigorous rehearsal process and perform with them in front of the television cameras at St. Matthews. The choir performs with professional polish and irrepressible high spirits, but it is range and depth of talent displayed by Jeri’s chosen soloists – Gilbert Downey, Jenika Simmons, Jonathan Munro, Tiyaila Cain-Grant and Kienya Smith – that will move and astonish the audience.
